(Great Blue Heron - photo by Neil Barker - August 27, 2023)
A feathery statue standing tall and collecting sunshine.
The world around drifts past barely noticed and forgotten.
With no attention paid nor worry given, did it exist?
I took this photo last year August 27, 2023. I was hiking at Britannia Conservation Area and was walking along the shore of the Ottawa River. I remember scanning the water and shoreline for wildlife and seeing this Great Blue Heron.
When I first saw this heron, I did not know what I was looking at. I zoomed in with my camera and saw it was a heron drying and sunning their wings. I had never seen a Great Blue Heron do this before.
I stayed for a few minutes and watched the heron continue to stand in this pose. The heron seemed to be enjoying the sunshine and remained perfectly still. I left the heron and continued on my hike.
I don't think I've seen a heron or and egret in a pose like this either. Interesting photo capture Neil.
Thank you for sharing this incredible observation with us, Neil. It almost looks like the GBH is sitting in a lotus posture, meditating. I haven’t seen this before. I have seen them with different wing postures, stock still and looking like a direct link to the dinosaurs. I believe they are descendants of the same family as T. Rex. A wild observation here on your part, well done!
